the 1.0 feet of topsoil and 4.2 feet of overburden from the Phase 2 area of 4.5 acres and place it in
the mined out Phase 1 area. The volumes for this work are as follows:
topsoil: 1.0 ft thick 4.5 acres 7,260 cy
overburden: 4.2 ft thick 4.5 acres 30,492 cy
Once the overburden is removed from Phase 2, the equipment will enter the pit to resume the exca-
vation in the Phase 2 area. This area will also be mined to 1H:1 V slopes, mining out approximately
140,000 tons of raw sand and gravel which will complete the mining. Therefore, the total volume
mined and removed from the site is 255,000 tons.
Once Phase 2 is mined out, overburden and topsoil placed in the Phase 1 area bottom will move
back into the phase 2 area to reclaim the slopes to 3H:1V. The stockpiles will also be used to pro-
vide backfill and soil cover for the site. Soil will be placed from 5 feet below expected water level to
the edge of all disturbance around the perimeter of the permit area. The total soil and overburden
quantity available from excavation is 63,000 cy. To reduce the slopes of the lake from 3H:1V will
require 43,000 cy, therefore 20,000 cy will be left over and will be used to raise the lake bottom by
approximately 2 feet above the gravel excavation limit. This elevation is expected to be 4476'.
The two truck ramps of 6H:1 V grade will be lefr in to create shallow shelf areas for wetlands.
Map B-1 shows the contours of the existing site. Map E-1 shows the contours during mining. Map
E-2 shows the site after reclamation to 3H:1V slopes. Map E-3 shows the cross-sections of the site
for all three cases. After backfilling and grading of the
No mining will be conducted at night and no material will be stockpiled on site. All material will be
shipped to United's River Road facility on the west side of Grand Junction. There will be no fence
aoound the operation, since it is inside private property and there are no facilities on site. No prob-
lems are expected with vandalism.
19 Road Pit 10/02 11
