It formed in alluvium and colluv.ium derived <br />daninantly from sedimentary rock. The native vegetation is mainly grass. <br />Elevation is 6,200 to.7,E00 feet. Tte average annual precipitation .is 15 to <br />22 .inches, the average annual a.ir temperature is 47 to 49 degrees F, and the <br />average frost-free seasrn is 90 to 140 days. <br />Typically, the surface layer is loam 6 inches thick. The subsoil is clay <br />loam 19 inches thick. T'he substratum to a depth of 60 inches or more is <br />loam. The soil is neutral to a depth of 25 inches and moderately alkaline <br />and calcareous below that depth. <br />Included in this unit is 10 percent similar soils that are gravelly and <br />cobbly. ' . <br />The permeability of this FS~e soil is moderate. Available water <br />capacity is high. Effective rooting depth is 60 inches or more. Runoff is <br />slow to medium, and the hazard of ~,eter erosion is high to very high. <br />Tri.is unit .is used mainly for irrigated tt3y and pasture.
