JERIS A, DANIELSON, DEPUTY STATE ENGINEER <br />SUBJECT: ANIMAS AGGREGATES, LA PLATA COUNTY, APPLICATION FOR <br />MINING AND RECLAMATION PERMIT <br />C.J. NUIPER <br />State Engineer <br />As requested by your office, we have reviewed the above reference9 appli- <br />cation and the following comments are presented for your consideration: <br />1. The water requirements for the mining operation as <br />well as those that may be necessary for the reclama- <br />tion plan including irrigation of the revegetated area <br />are not provided. It also appears that a batch plant <br />is located on the affected area which may have addi- <br />tional water requirements. <br />2. A discussion on the effect of the mining operation upon <br />the hydrologic balance of the area is not provided. The: <br />area map indicates theta dredge may be used; however, <br />if dewatering of the mined pit is proposed, the effect <br />of the potential drawdown of the water table upon sur- <br />rounding water users should be evaluated. An evalua- <br />tion of the impact of the additional water losses result-• <br />ing from the evaporation from the newly exposed water <br />surfaces should be provided. <br />3 .
