Rule 2: Permits
• The revegetation plan has been designed to meet short- and long-term reclamation goals by: I.
controlling erosion and sedimentation; 2. reestablishing vegetative cover which is ecologically
comparable to native pre-mine conditions; and 3. restoring livestock grazing wildlife, watershed,
and aesthetic values to meet post-operation land use objectives. Revegetation will occur after final
grading and redistribution of subsoil and topsoil activities have taken place.
Revegetation communities representative of existing native pre-mine plant communities will be
established. These communities are presented in Map 2.04.10-I. The surface mine area will be
reclaimed to rangeland, with shrub plots, to be established. A sununary of the revegetation
sequence. is as follows:
• Placement of boulder and brush piles, as appropriate, on surface mine.
• Seedbed preparation will be conducted immediately after grading topsoiling and subsoiling.
Seeding will be coordinated with other reclamation activities to occur as soon after seedbed
preparation as possible and within 90 days of soil replacement Interim revegetation of sites
stabilized prior to permanent revegetation such as sediment control or topsoil stockpiles will he
conducted as soon after construction as possible.
• The site will be seeded using the appropriate revegetation seed mixture.
• • Broadcast-seeded areas will be chained, harrowed, dozer-tracked or raked to Finn the seedbed
and cover seed.
• Certified weed-free hay or straw mulch will be evenly spread over and crimped into seeded
area at rates dependent on seeding method and slope.
• Annual reports will document species composition and seeding rates. Monitoring will be
conducted to identify potential problems with revegetation.
•, Revegetated areas will be grazed at an approved level during the last two years of the 10-year
reclamation liability period. Vegetation sampling will be conducted on the rcclaimed and
extended reference areas prior to grazing each year.
•
TR-13 2.05-60 Revised 12/8/04)
