further recommend testing and documentation should the area be impacted by mining or
associated activities.
Site 5RT118 is situated on the edge of the proposed permit boundary on the opposite side of
the drainage in which the proposed north haul road exits the mina site to the northwest Isee
Exhibits 5.1 entitled Archaeological Sites and 20-1 entitled Disturbance Mapl. It is situated
outside proposed disturbance areas. However, blasting may be conducted within 2,000 feet of
the rock art panels.
SCC's proposed plan to protect and mitigate Site 5RT118 has been sent to the appropriate
regulatory authorities Isee Attachment 1 -Letter dated October 4, 1990 from SCC to BLM,
SHPO, and OSMREI• The plan calls for photographs and/or drawings to 6e made of the rock art
panels since, although remote, blasting could potentially damage the rock face. The plan
further calls for posting "Disturbance Boundary" signs around the site to ensure that it remains
undisturbed. Such activities would be completed prior to construction of the haul road or
blasting within 2,000 feet. Concurrence with the proposed plan was received from the SHPO
on October 17, 1990 Isee statement on the second page of the above-referenced letterl.
SCC has completed archaeological surveys of all currently permitted and proposed areas
associated with the Seneca II-W Mine. Testing has been completed at relevant sites associated
with the existing permit, and a plan has been proposed to protect/mitigate relevant sites in
proposed permit expansion areas. Pending approval and implementation of the proposed plan
for Site 5RT118, no further impact to cultural resources are anticipated as a result of mining at
Seneca II-W.

3
