'
EXHIBIT D
' MINING PLAN AND TI\1ETABLE
Mining Plan. The property known as Canon City East Pit
' was purchased in 1968 by Valco, Inc. The extraction of sand
' and gravel was b egun in 1972. Prior to extraction of sand
and gravel, the entire property was irrigated pasture which
' produced alfalfa and other pasture s pecies. As mining
progresses, the land area allocated to the production of
pasture species has decreased. The availability of land
for farming will continue to decreas e and agricultural
'
activities will be suspended when it becomes uneconomical to
' plant and produce crops.
In 1972 open pit mining was started in the south central
' portion of the location and progressed along the southern bor-
der into the southeast portion of the area (see map Exhibit C).
A
concrete batch plant and the gravel plant occupy approximately
' 4.12 acres + on the west side of the location. None of this
latter area will be excavated.
' Mining will occur in five stages so as to minimize surface
disturbances at any one time. The property will be mined from
1 th
h
d t
th
e sout
en
o
e approximate middle, and then from the north
' end toward the middle of the affected land. Each mining stage
will be approximately five years in duration, except the last
stage which will be about one year. Each mining stage will be
followed immediately by a reclamation phase (See map Exhibit D-1).
' Th
o
r
it i
t
d
ifi
pe
e p
s
a
e
year-round by Valco, Inc. as a spec
ca-
' tion aggregate supply for its adjoining concrete batch plant.
5
