No comprehensive explanation is
offered for the manner in which water will be kept away from overburden piles and
other soils exposed by the project. This leads us to believe that no feasible plan is in
place to protect water quality in the area. This is a crucial piece of the pertnit
application, even when area drainages aze only intermittent.
The applicant does not once mention whether or trot the project site has any acid
generating potential. Though some areas are alluvial and less likely to create an acid
mine drainage, this may not be the case for the entire 160 acre parcel. The wildlife
section is similarly lacking.
Lastly, the public is offered no information to accurately visualize this project. We are
never told the total pit depth, the total height of overburden and topsoil piles, the size
trucks which will be utilized, the impacts these trucks are likely to have on area roads
and safety. With all these unknowns, bMG cannot do its job protecting this area, and
no bond 5.r .the project can be adequately figured. The application's current bond
proposal ~-:entirely insufficient, regardless. The State of Colorado will have no more
than $10,~ JO at any given time, and frequently this money is being returned during
operation Tcn thousand dollars will not cover a mess made of 160 acres by mining.
Colorado ~ axpayers deserve better accountability than Stone Crushing has thus far
offered.
Mineral Policy Center urges the Division to reject this permit. Thank you for
considering our concerns.
Sincerely,
~~ Aimee R. Boulanger
t Southwest Ciccuit Rider
P. 02
~.-
