Fresh Water Svstem Modification
• Ta•entymile Coal Company's fresh water system will be modified to incorporate the million gallon diesel storage
tank currenth~ being used by Colorado Yampa Coal Company. A water line will be constructed which will tie in
the million ~~allon tank, the existing well and the new fresh water borehole. The location of this system is shown
on Map 24, Surface Facilities.
Laying of the water line will require excavating a trench approximately 7 [0 15 feet in depth. As shown on Map
24, Surface facilities, the majority of the ditch work will occur within previously disturbed areas. For the section
of pipe laid in the disturbed area a work corridor, approximately 30 feet wide, will be used. The material
excavated from the trench will he placed adjacent to it, and after the pipe is placed the trench will be backfilled.
For the undisturbed area the topsoil, approximately 2 fee[ in depth, will be removed from the work area, and
temporarih~ srockpiled adjacent to it. Afer the trench is excavated, the water line placed, and the trench backfilled
the topsoil will be replaced.
A borehole, approximately I50 feet in depth, will be drilled into the mine workings and cased. The borehole will
be approximately 12 inches in diameter, and the casing will have a nominal 8" diameter. The annular space will
be grouted from the bottom [o the [op.
The drill pad required for this project will be constructed on both disturbed and undisturbed land. the part to be
constructed on the undisutrbed area will require salvaging approximately 24 inches of topsoil. The topsoil will be
temporarily stockpiled adjacent to the pad. Once the system is working the topsoil will he redistributed and seeded
with the rangeland seed mixture.
• An access road will be constructed into the drill site. The access road will he constructed across an undisturbed
area. Approximately 28" of topsoil will be salvaged from [he road corridor and temporarily windrowed to the side.
After drilling and setting [he casing the road will be reclaimed by blading the topsail back over the area. The area
will he seeded with the rangeland seed mixture.
Any future access into the area will be along the existing railroad tracks. Given the limited amount of disturbance
and rapid reclamation of the area it is requested that this area be identified as a small area exemption area.
Therefore, no sediment control system will be installed.
After the system is no longer needed the borehole will be grouted from the bottom to the top. An Octo plug will
he placed 10 feet below the surface and the remainder ofthe hole will be backfilled with soil material.
The 8 inch fresh water line into [he mine has been damaged and must be repaired immediately. A backhoe will be
used to find the leak so that repairs can be undertaken. The pits dug by the backhoe will be backfilled and the
site(s) graded smooth and seeded with the approved mixture. Seeding may take place in the spring or fall.
A new hole will be drilled approximately 100 fee[ [o dte east of the existing one. This will require preparation of a
drill site, which will include stripping topsoil from the drill pad (approximately 100' X 100') and stockpiling it
adjacent to the pad. Also, mud pits will be drilled to handle the drilling Fluids that may be required for drilling [he
hole. Attempts will be made to drill the hole with air, or air mist, but it may be necessary ro use a drilling mud to
complete the hole. Upon completion of this project the site would be reclaimed, and this would include backfilling
the mud pit(s), grading the pad, redistributing [he topsoil, and seeding the site. The seeding may take place in
• either the spring (this would require reclaiming the site prior to mid-April), or the fall.
In order tnget the drill rig to [he site, the bean an the east end of the stoker pad will he temporarily breached and
the rig driven over the ~_round to the railroad tracks. This is noted as a ramp on Map 24. The ramp will be back
MR 97- I ~4 2.05-~ I Rzvised 9/9/97
