A
situation whereby an alterative solution could have been reached. I also reiterate the need to have
Lang and MCC in close contact at all times.
As a result of this incident, MCC will follow the following administrative procedures to rectify
this situation:
1. MCC will write a letter to Lang Drilling corporate office, informing them of the unacceptable
practices used on this project, and that this was a citable offense on National Forest System
lands. Lang will also be informed that at no time are they to "take matters into their own hands"
and make decisions on project work without receiving prior direction From MCC. This letter will
be copied to this office of the Forest Service.
2. In concert with item 1, MCC will keep the Forest Service informed of pending and occurring
problems, and will secure the needed Forest Service approvals.
2. Should the situation occur again that the reserve pits fill and need to be pumped out before
drilling can continue, the operations will shut down until fluids a can be removed according to
COAs. The Forest Service will be notified if this situation occurs.
Your receipt of this letter constitutes a warning that there have been violations of project COAs,
and that these violations will not be tolerated and are unacceptable. Future incidences of this
kind will result in project shut down, and may result in issuance of citations.
Please contact Liane Mattson of my staff should you have any questions regarding the content of
this letter.
Sincerely,
`,nrn,~i J`~y~~a.:
SUSAN J.
