Topsoil Replacement
Topsoil replacement (topsoil layer of approximately one-ft minimum) will occur
following regrading and scarification of the surface primarily in late summer and
fall. This procedure limits the time that topsoil is exposed prior to revegetation
and avoids moving topsoil when it is frozen or too wet.
Revegetation
Revegetation with predominantly native grassland will be undertaken. The
reclamation seed mix is shown in Table E-1. The seed mix for temporary cover
is provided in Table E-2.
Seeding Method
Seeding will be accomplished using either a seed drill properly equipped to meter
the native grasses of the mix, or using broadcast followed by harrowing or raking.
Seeding will be done in the fall after October 15` to facilitate successful
germination. Following seeding, the area will be covered with certified clean
straw at a rate of approximately two tons per acre.
Weed Management
The development of weeds will be closely monitored to ascertain the need for
control. Of greatest concern will be the development of Canada thistle (Cirsium
arvense), leafy spurge (Euphorbia esula), diffuse knapweed (Acosta diffusa),
z2
