on the highway, regulations 3fl CFR 784.18(a) and 761.12(d) will be
adhered to.
• Typical pillar support is shavn on Exhibit S-5 and a copy of the letter
authorizing mining under State Higtnvay 13 will be found on the next page.
5.2 CUKfIS CREEK
In cortipliance with 30 CFR 817.126(a), Curtis Creek, which is
a perennial stream through the mine plan area, will be protected from salt
sidence unless it is found that the subsidence would not damage the stream
flow or that subsidence will not occur during advance mining. A segment
of the first panel in the FF seam will be available as a test block in
which the pillars will be pulled and the effects of subsidence closely
rronitored and studied (see Exhibit S-2). If it is determined that secondary
mining undernearth Curtis Creek can be performed without disrupting the
stream flow, the pillars will be rermved. Otherwise, a protective zone
like that for the State Highway will be designed with advance mining only
and adequate pillars left in place to protect against subsidence. this
will be the case for the G seam mine also (see Exhibit S-4). With the depth
of overburden for these two seams, it is highly unlikely that the subsidence
• (if it occurred) underneath the creek would damage its flow. Havever, until
site-specific data can be gathered and studied, Northern Coal will not sub-
side the area beneath Curtis Creek.
5.3 JENSEN RANCH
Only mining in the FF seam will be directly underneath the Jensen
Ranch. Adequate coal will be left in place as support pillars and no secondary
mining will occur. By using this method, subsidence will be prevented under the
Jensea Ranch. Because there aze tenants living in the dwellings, 30 CFR 761.12(e)
will be followed and the owners will be notified accordingly. The protective Zone
for the Jensen Ranch in the FF seam is shown on Exhibit S-2.
5.4 RESERVOIRS, PONDS AND DAMS
Only the impoundments having a storage volume of 20 acre-feet or more
must be addressed by a subsidence control plan (30 CFR 817.126(a)). They will be
l
5-17
