Box 2107 Gram] Junction, Colorado 81501 Dear Bob: ., Here are our ocnments on the htiite Fd~er' Aggregates Inc. gravel pit near Meeker. The only acceptable area for the stripping stockpile of over burden would be in the area that has already been mined, preferably in Test Hole '93 area. Tne draw where the crnpany wanted to put the stockpile is an area of sagebrush that is the only t-~+u;ning sagebrush in the area. This sagebrush is required by the sage grouse as both food and cover. Ztye draw is within one-half mile of a strutting ground. Deer also use this draw as do many other species of wildlife. 4he disturbance by humans in the draw would rermve the wildlife from the only ran3;ning habitat in the close proximity. Zherefore, we will not accept any other alternative dump site than in an area whewmining has already taken place. Our only other rencern is the reclamation of the mined land after it has been min_nd. W~ feel that sore reclamation should be started on the mined out areas prior to the mining of the entire pit. I am sure that we will discuss this situation with the Reclamation Board when h'hite River Aggregates Inc. applies for an extension of the permit after the Colorado Dept. of Highways finishes with the work they are doing.
