It is Peabody Coal Company's desire to leave both the Wadge
Impoundment and the Northwest Impoundment (No. 003) as permanent
impoundments. This section of the Mid-Term Review Revision addresses tl~e
various sections of the CMLR Division's Rule 4.05.9
Peabody Coal Company plans to leave the two impoundments in the
configuration illustrated on Exhibit 12-9 (Postmining Contours) included in
• this permit revision. At the Wadge Impoundment, there will be some final
grading along the western bank as the existing haul road is removed. Tl~e
flume at the outlet will be removed and the area graded and vegetated. Pt
the Northwest impoundment, Grassy Creek will be rechanneled to Flow
through the pond, the outlet culvert will be removed and the dam leveled as
is described in Appendix 13-3 to Permit C-005-80 in response to Stipulation
No. 9. The two impoundments will support this land use by pro-
viding water of sufficient quality and quantity. Tables 7-10-I, 7-10-2, nn~1
7-10-3 statistically summarize the monitoring data collected between
January I, 1981 and September 15, 1984 at the outfall of the Wacia~°
Impoundment (NPDES 002) of the Northwest Impoundment (NPDES 003) acid
site SW-S2-2 downstream of all mining. Comparison of the data witl, the
water quality criteria for livestock data presented in Table 7-10-4 indicat:s
that mean concentrations of all parameters of interest are below tl,e
recommended criterion.
