Table 2
• General Soil Properties Used in Previous Analyses
Friction An a Cohesion Wet Densi
Material de reel c
Coal Stock ile 40 0 75
Coal Pad Fill 27 410 128
Foundation Soil 27 410 128
A comparison of Table 1 with Table 2 indicates that drained soil properties were used in the
analyses. This is reasonable because there is no water table within the soil mass being analyzed.
2.3 Stability Analyses
The cross section used in the previous analysis was taken through the area of the coal stack pad
expansion. This area is shown on Figure 2 and labeled as the approximate cut-slope and the
approximate fill-slope. The slope of the expansion pile was 2H:1 V.
I~
L
The soil borings did not indicate a water table. In addition, the cross section used in the previous
analyses did not use a water table in the area of the R.O.M. pad expansion.
The factor of safety for the previous slope stability analysis of the lower slope was found to
equal approximately 1.49. The factor of safety of the upper slope was found to be 1.68. These
analyses were done using an earthquake acceleration equal to O.Og.
1
P:UM~26V)30VtOMpileVenecdoc
