• Seasonal average wind speeds are presented in Figures 2.1-12, 2.1-13 and
2.1-14. Winter months have [he lowest average wind speeds. The spring has
the maximum average wind speeds with a secondary minimum during the summer and
a secondary maximum occurring in the Fall (Stearns-Roger, 1975). There is a
discernable rapid decrease in the average wind speeds beginning in July
(Stearns-Roger, 1976).
Wind speeds reaching the levels expressed in Table 2.1-11 (Maximum Wind Speed
Range 35 [0 45 MPH) are primarily associated with the passage of a weather
front through the Craig area. Winds over 50 MPH (43.5 knots) are uncommon.
However, gusts such as those experienced on July 19, 1977, when surface winds
reached 53.8 MPH (46.8 knots) and winds 75.2 MPH (65.4 knots) a[ 200 fee[
above ground level, are possible although unlikely.

•
2-38
