TRAPPER MINING INC.
February 11, 1993
Mr. Glenn Mallory
Colorado Department of Health
Waste Management Division
4210 East 11th Avenue
Denver, CO 80220
Subject -Trapper Mining Inc. Solid Waste Disposal Site
Ladies and Gentlemen:
On May 9th, 1980, Trapper Mine was designated by the Moffat County Board of
Commissioners as a Solid Waste Disposal Site. The purpose of the designation was for
possible use of some of the mined pits for disposal of utility wastes generated by the
nearby Craig Generating Station and municipal wastes generated by the City of Craig
and surrounding Moffat County.
Currently, Trapper disposes ofmine-generated wastes and is disposing of the fly ash,
• bottom ash and scrubber sludge generated by the Tri-State Generation Station adjacent
to the mine, as approved by the Colorado Department of Health and the County
certification. Neither of these activities is regulated as a solid waste under 6 CCR 1007-
2. Therefore, Trapper Mine requests the solid waste disposal site designation be
modified to exclude municipal solid wastes.
Trapper will continue to dispose of mine-generated wastes and the fly ash, bottom ash,
and scrubber sludge generated by Tri-State as currently permitted. These activities are
also regulated under the Office of Mined Land Reclamation.
Please contact me if you have any questions or require additional information to process
this request.
Sincerely,
Larry Henderson
Sr. Environmental Engineer
LN'H/mg/CDH WST29
enc
c Moflat County Commissioners
Donna foster ~ CDH, Grand Junction
Kent Gorham - OMLR, Denrer
J Egloff -Tri-Slate GAT
• WC Sowards -Trapper
FV Luke-Trapper
Gle 109, 120
P.0 Box 187 Craig, Colorado 81626 ~ '(303) 824-4401
