The sec
ik4
4k5
lk6
~k9
4k10
end group of sites includes:
- Duell - SW's 36-T9N-R61W
- Government 7k1 - SW's 2, ~ 11-TlON-R64W
- Government 4k2 - SE's 1-T10N-R57W
- Walker - NE'Z 30-T8N-R57W
- younglund - SE's 6-T10N_R57W
The soils on this site are typically gravelly and porous, and the species
and rates to be seeded are as follows:
Species Variety °!, in Mixture Seeding Rate
Blue grama Covington 20 0.6 lbs/Ac PLS
Sideoats grama Vaughn 50 4.5 lbs/Ac PLS
Little bluestem Pastura 30 2.1 lbs/Ac PLS
7.2 lbs/Ac PLS
The seed should be planted to a depth of 1i2 to 3/4 inch deep using a grass
drill equipped with a feeding mechanism and agitator, double disk furrow
openers and packer wheels. A straw or hay mulch should be applied at the
rate of 4,000 lbs/Ac and should be crimped into the soil to prevent blowing.
Other methods of mulching are acceptable and I have encloaed a copy of our
mulching standards and specifications for your information.
Prior to the actual seeding, fertilizer should be applied at a rate of 40
lbs Phosphorous and 40 lbs Nitrogen per acre:
Seeding should be done in the fall of the year, usually after October 31st,
when the ground is sufficiently cold enough to prevent germination before the
next year's growing season, or in the spring prior to.the 15th of April to
insure adequate soil moisture.
If a grass drill is not available and a broadcast method of seeding is used,
the seeding rate should be doubled and the seed should then be hand raked
into the soil to insure good seed to soil contact.
If possible, all areas ahould have topsoil applied at a depth of 6 to 8 inches
before reseeding. Critical areas should be protected from any disturbing influ-
ences for at least one full year or until vegetation has established itself.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact this office.
incerely
i .
Ronald D.
