With increased runoff in the spring,
magnesium concentrations increase at the expense of calcium
• and the water changes slightly to a sodium, magnesium, calcium,
sulfate type. During the summer and fall, calcium concentrations
increase notably and the water changes to a calcium, sodium,
magnesium, sulfate type. Most importantly, the dominant cation
remains sulfate year round." (BLM, undated)
Recent water quality sampling performed at the central facili-
ties site by Geo-Hydro Consulting, Inc. and subsequent testing
by Core Laboratories, Denver and Grand Junction Laboratories,
Grand Junction confirms this statement. The results of the
three quarterly samples taken to date at the upper East Salt
Creek and Lower East Salt Creek monitoring stations are pre-
sented as part of Appendix Ds.
Total dissolved solids (TDS) for the quarterly samplings range
from 1062 mg/1 at the upper East Salt Creek sampling site on
April 29, 1981 to 4273 mg/1 in July, 1981. Samples from the
• Lower East Salt Creek site were collected on April 29, 1981
