4-16
4.3.2 Site Specific Surface Water Hydrology
. The central facilities are to be located in the East Salt
Creek valley near the mouth of Munger Creek. The site loca-
tion is shown on Figures 2.2-15 and 4.3-15. Munger Creek
is located in Section 29, Township 7 South, Range 102 West
as shown on the United States Geological Survey (USGS) Howard
Canyon 7.5 minute quadrangle map. Munger Creek is approxi-
mately 16 miles upstream of the confluence of East and west
Salt Creeks and approximately 20 miles upstream of the con-
fluence with the Colorado River.
Munger Creek, McClane Creek and other tributaries in the
vicinity of the site are ephemeral channels, at times flow-
ing into East Salt Creek. East Salt Creek is an intermittent
stream near the site and a perennial stream in its lower
reaches at the gauging station. The East Salt Creek drainage
area below Munger Canyon is approximately 111 square miles.
A summary of drainage areas of interest is presented in Table
• 4.2-85.
USGS has operated a recording station at East Salt Creek
approximately five miles above the confluence with West
Salt Creek since 1973. The drainage area at the gauge is
about 197 square miles. Records from this station are included
as part of Appendix Ds to this report (USGS, 1981).
Although the short period of record (1973 - 1980 Water Years)
is too short to obtain statistically reliable data, there are
several general inferences that may be drawn from the data.
East Salt Creek experiences the major volume of runoff in
April, May and June in response to snowmelt. Figure 4.3-25
shows that May is the month of highest average volume with 56
percent of the total average yearly runoff. Low flow periods
are experienced in winter months, with January contributing
• less than one percent of the average yearly runoff. The
