<br />~II ~I~II~II~~I~~ ~II <br />sss <br />Rationale for Recommendation for Approval Over Objections <br />Regular 112 Construction Materials Permit Application,.Johnson Excavating <br />Compan~~ <br />Tellier Gravel Pit, Permit No. NI-98-0~8 <br />November 9, 1993 <br />CNTRODUCTiON <br />On November 9, 1998, the Division of Minerals and Geology (DMG) issued its recommendation for <br />approval of Johnson Excavation Company's Tellier Gravel Pit application (Permit No. 1vI-98-058), over <br />objections. This document is intended to explain the reasons for the Division's recommendation of <br />approval over objections to the application. <br />Johnson Excavating Company's Tellier Gravel Pit application was found complete and considered filed <br />with the Division on July 29, 1998. The application proposes surface mining of sand and gravel at a site <br />in Routt County 6 miles west of Steamboat Springs, Colorado. The mining permit boundary includes <br />24.89 acres, of which approximately 0.45 acres will be affected by the proposed mine access raad and <br />24.44 acres will be mined. The maximum area which will be actively mined at anyone time, excluding <br />reclamation, will be six acres. The mining operation will. contain an active pit area, topsoil piles, <br />overburden piles, a crushing R, screening facility, product stockpiles, 3 sediment ponds, a haul road and <br />an office & scale azea. The end land use for the mined area will be pastureland.
