~ - S~ow~oo So~N Cosso~o~~oo ~~51~
FRED C. MILLER, PRESIDENT Admin. Coordinator- Patrice Mosher {970) 323-5091
To: Greg Lewicki and Associates
11541 Warrington Court
Parker, CO 80138
Re: Project # DPF 050-2 (5)
West Side of Cerro Summit
Bellgardt Unit
As requested this report addresses the Shawano Soil Conservation
District (SSCD) concerns about the proposed operation using
information provided by the Natural Resources Conservation
Service (NRCS). NRCS made an on-site investigation on June
• 18~ ~ 2002 .
The original site investigation was made of the Bellgart Unit in
January 1977. The soil and vegetation have not changed
significantly in the past 25 years. A copy of that investigation
is included with this report along with recommendations £rom CSU
and NRCS for reclamation sites. This site is in Major Land
Resource Area (MLRA) 35 and below 6,500 £eet in elevation.
This area still £its the MRCS definition o£ a pinyon-juniper
woodland site. These two trees species constitute the over-story
while the following list of plants can be in the under-story:
big sage brush, serviceberry, mountain mahogany, prickly pear
cactus, Douglas rabbitbrush, galleta grass, bottlebrush
squirreltail grass, beardless wheatgrass, cheatgrass, penstomen
and hairy gold aster.
The sides should be sloped to no more than 3:1 where feasible
and blended into the existing landscape. Re-vegetation of all
disturbed sites should take place. Two seeding mixtures are in
the recommendations from CSU and NRCS for this site, Erosion can
be reduced on these steep slopes by using water bars and
• terracing the land.
