RECF9l~~®
SOILS INFORMATION APR ~ $ 2006 EXHIBIT I
Division of Minerals and Geology
A general soils report for the site was done by the Shawano Soil Conservation District office in 1977.
In 2002, an additional site visit was made to verify the site and evaluate the additional mine azea.
Basically, the pinon juniper soil in the entire permit azea is thin and rocky and very little material can
be salvaged for re-use. The initial and supplemental reports aze given in Appendix C. Additional
material from the SCS Soil Survey of Montrose County is also provided in Appendix C. As shown in
the Shawano report of 1977, there aze pockets of sandy loam in swales that may have appreciable
thicknesses. Western Gravel commits to salvaging all soils found in these pockets for re-use in
reclamation. Based on the survey data, it is assumed that the average salvageable soil from Strip 1
area is 2 inches. Most of the azea will produce no soil, but pockets in swales will produce so that the
average is approximately 2 inches. Strip 2 may have slightly more material to salvage from pockets,
therefore, the average is predicted to be 3 inches.
The report shows that the site consists of the following classifications:
1) Billings Clay Loam 5-10% slopes (BgC)
2) Genola Clay Loam - 2-5% slopes. (GbC) A&B horizon down to 60 inches.
3) Badlands, Baze Ground. (Rv, Rw and Ry)
All soil type boundaries aze shown on Map Exhibit UJ.
See the sections on the Mining Plan and the Reclamation Plan for more information on soil stripping
and stockpiling.
Bellgazdt Pi[ 1/06 37
