2. Map 7, Coal Gulch Mine Geology/Hydrology shows the axis of the
• Perine Peak S ncline as runnin throw h the southeastern corner of
t e permit oundary. is appears to e a mayor structura feature
of the area an t e aermit aoo ication show d inc uT~dTscussion
RESPONSE:
The Perine Peak Syncline is a local syncline identified by the U.S.
Geological Survey during its mapping of this area. There is no regional
structural significance to the location of this syncline.
3. The ermit a lication does not contain a discussion of the eneral
area or regions geo ogic structure.
RESPONSE:
As with the structure of the permit and adjacent areas, the structure of
the general area likewise appears to be quite simple. The strata in the
entire region is relatively flat lying with average regional dips of 2
• to 3 degrees to the south. With the exception of one fault system
located over five (5) miles southeast of the permit area, there is no
major faulting in the general area. The general lack of structure in
the general area can be seen on the Regional Geology Map (Map 5).
4. On page 2.04-14 the applicant discusses the lack of subsurface
water. Conversely, there is some subsurface water within
the permit area. However, Peerless Resources, Inc. would like to
clarify its position on subsurface water; that is, there are no large
-13-
