•
RESPONSE
Peerless Resources, Inc. does not feel that there are any cultural or
historic resources which may be eligible for listing on the National
Register. Those sites or resources identified by the State Historic
Preservation Office are merely old, abandoned coal mines and facilities.
Old coal mines and associated facilities are commonplace in the Durango
area. None of the old, abandoned coal mines or facilities within the
permit or adjacent areas are any different or more unique than the
multitude of old mines and facilities found in the general Durango area.
It is also the understanding of Peerless Resources, Inc. that the
Division has contacted the State Historic Preservation Office and
received confirmation that there are no cultural or historic resources
within the permit area which may be eligible for listing on the National
Register.
• Geology Description - Rule 2.04.6
1. The potential of existing
RESPONSE
As stated in Section 2.04.7, there are no aquifers found within the
permit area. The only possible aquifer in the general area providing
useable and acceptable quantities of water is the colluvium material of
Lightner Creek which is north of the permit area and considerably below
the "A" coal seam. There are no wells within the permit area and/or
Coal Gulch that have been permitted by the State Engineer of Colorado.
Most water wells in the general area surrounding the planned Coal Gulch
Mine are found in Lightner Creek north of the permit area. As shown on
Figure lA, Typical Cross Section of the General Area, the Lightner Creek
colluvium material is stratigraphically located at a considerable depth
below the "A" Coal Seam and other coal seams found in the permit area.
• Likewise, the Lightner Creek colluvium is found up-dip of the "A" Coal
Seam. Only a relatively small portion of the permit area (and none of
the permit area that will be affected by surface disturbance) drains
north to Lightner Creek.
-11-
