• Limited-Results Cultural Resource Survey Form
(page 3 ot'3)
V. LITERATURE REVIEW (continued)
25. Known Cultural Resources
In the project azea:
In the general region: Overviews ofthe prehistory and history ofthe region areprovided in the Colorado
Historical Society's publications entitled "West-Central Colorado Prehistoric Context (Reed ] 9841 and
"Colorado Plateau Country Historic Context" (Husband (1984).
26. Expected Results: No cultural resources were expected because of low density of finds b~
other surveys in azea and because of the steep terrain land slides. and heave around cover.
VI. STATEMENT OF OBJECTIVES
27. The puroose of the study was to identify and record all cultural remains over 50 veazs old within the
area of potential impact. to assess their significance and eli icy to the National Register of Historic
Places (NRHPI. and make recommendations concernine management. If possible. the remains will
add to our understanding_of the prehistory and history of the region.
• VII. FIELD METHODS
28. Definitions: Site Sites were defined by the presehce of six or more artifacts and/or significant
feature(sl indicative of patterned human activity that were determined to be at least 50 veazs old.
IF Sinele activity remains usually represented by the Qresence of 1 to 5 artifacts apparently of
surficial nature.
29. Describe Survey Method: A 100 percent pedestrian cultural resources survey of the proposed
drill holes was made by walkine a series of concentric circles centered on the proposed hole location.
and spaced at approximately 10-meter intervals to cover a diameter of350 feet (2 5 acres} The access
road was surveyed by walkine a sinuous transact approx 25 feet each side of the center to forma 50
foot wide corridor.
VIII. RESULTS
30. List IFs if applicable. Indicate IF locations on the map completed for Part III.
A. Smithsonian Number: Description:
31. Using your professional knowledge of the regian, why are there none or very limited cultural
remains in the project area? Is there subsurface potential?
The low density of sites and isolated finds in this area is attributed to the rough, steep terrain and heave
• round cover Landslide deposits are common and soil creep is endemic
