a

Pond 010. Soil conditions found in TPA consisted of 3 feet of stiff to very stiff
clay soils underlain by interbedded clayey sand and clays to a depth of
approximately 6 feet. These soils were underlain by gravel and sand with
cobbles. The surficial clays were stiff to very stiff. The interbedded clayey
sand to clay soils were loose to medium dense. Laboratory testing of a bulk
sample indicated 53 percent passing the No. 200 sieve with a liquid limit of 27
percent and a plasticity index of 12 percent.
Pond 011. Soil conditions found in TP-5 and TP-6 indicated a thin layer of
dark brown to black topsoil underlain by stiff to very stiff clay soils to a depth
of 3 feet. The clay soils were underlain by interbedded clayey sands and
clays to depths of 9 to 10 feet. Based upon visual observations and
excavation effort, the interbedded clayey sands and clays were judged to be
loose to medium dense and medium stiff to stiff.
Ground water was found at a depth of 8 feet in TP-6. Soils near and below the
ground water were judged to be soft to medium stiff and very moist to wet.
Pond 012. Soil conditions found in TP-7 consisted of 1.5 feet of stiff clay soils,
underlain by interbedded clayey sand and clays to a depth of 3 feet, then
underlain by gravel and sand. The gravel and sand were judged to be medium
• dense to dense, and are considered relatively permeable. Test Pit TP-7 was
located in the southern portion of the proposed pond, closer to the
drainageway.
Conditions in TP-8 were different. TP-8 was located in the northwestern
portion of the proposed pond, at a slightly higher elevation, and further from
the drainageway. Observation of surface conditions and eroded channels in
the area indicated the soils in this area consisted of clays. This was
confirmed with the test pit. The conditions found in TP-8 consisted of 5 feet
of stiff to very stiff clay soils. Below these clay soils, medium stiff to stiff,
moist clay soils were found to a total depth of 9 feet.
Pond 013. Soil conditions found in TP-9 consisted of approximately 1 foot of
clay overburden soils underlain by interbedded claystone and sandstone
bedrock. Occasional thin carbonaceous seams were noted in the bedrock.
The bedrock was hard to very hard. The proposed pond is located above
alluvial deposits in the drainageway. Visual observation of the topography in
the area indicate shallow bedrock is most likely present in the proposed pond
area.

LORENCITO COAL COMPANY, LLC
SMALL SEDIMENTATION EMBANKMENTS
CTLlT 26,559 s
