_.. <br />•r <br />The Lyons plant did burn used oil as a fuel source.. That <br />practice was discontinued approximately 15 months ago. Since that <br />dime natural gas has been utilized as the fuel source. Southwestern <br />Cement purchased this recycled oil from a facility in Adams County. <br />In the past there have been cases where Non-Radioactive waste oil <br />("be.Low regulatory concern") has been discovered offsite and traced <br />back to the waste oil stream at Rocky Flats. At this time non- <br />radioactive waste oil is sent to OSCO an oil and solvent processing <br />comp,sny located in Henderson Colorado. <br />' At this point, Southwestern <br />Southdown, Inc. decided to conduct an <br />provide a further level of assurance <br />contracted with a third party c <br />environmental impacts to examine the <br />their analysis. <br />Cement's parent company, <br />independent investigation to <br />for everyone involved. The samples were split and packaged by 3:00 <br />pm. <br />On Friday, April 23, 1993 the balance of the samples were <br />obtained. These consisted of the weathered fourth ridge from the <br />Larimer County quarry, Dowe flats soil samples, samples of the <br />Lyons sandstone, a composite soil sample of two sites southeast of <br />the plant, and a soil sample from the plant site. All of the <br />background soil samples were obtained Scraping the top 1/4 inch of <br />soil in the sites sampled. Shepherd Miller used the 2" x 2" sample <br />template and procedure on loan from the Division of Radiological <br />Health Colorado Department. of Health. Samples were sent to: <br />Milt Lammering EFA <br />Acculabs an independent/private lab in Golden Colorado <br />Colorado State University a second independent/private lab <br />located in Fort Collins <br />At This time Boulder County Health Department has not <br />received the analytical. results of this sampling event. <br />
