Sand and Gravel Mine, hydrology issues
cc: Paul Gesso, Tom Smith ~a
_. ,... ~. ~, ~5a~~
Dear Mr. Haldorson,
I was recently informed that the water level in the newly installed observation piezometer located on the
northeast comer of the proposed gravel mine site was measured as 55 ft and 53 ft below the surface
on two consecutive days, September 9 and 10 respectively. These measurements support the
-conclusions stated in my_previous letter-report concerning groundwater conditions in the area.
Because groundwater levels in this area are strongly influenced by irrigation infiltration, now (early
September} is probably close to the peak of the annual groundwater fluctuation cyde. This means that
it is likely that these measurements represent the highest water level during the year. I would
recommend that water level measurements continue to betaken on a weekly basis throughout the
year. The measurement should be made consistently at the same time and day each week. The date,
time and water level should be recorded in a log book. This data will be very useful in the future, both
for our ongoing hydrologic assessment and planning of the excavation schedule.
Please attach this note to my previous letter-report.
~S;ri~ly, . ,'
/////
Don R.
