aquifers should be elevated for several years after mining until the
readily dissolveable constituents are removed.
The QR aquifer is monitored downgradient of a portion of the
mined E pit at well GF6. TDS measurements from this well have been
steady except for the 1986 and 1987 values which are slightly higher
than the previous four years. Additional monitoring is needed to
define if a significant trend is developing. The higher values could
be due to the uphill mining in the QR aquifer, but are well within the
range expected for natural fluctuations.
The GBB site wells were abandoned in 1987. Monitoring of the
• wells at this site stopped after June of 1987, therefore, no TDS
values from the annual monitoring were available for 1987. No TDS
plots are presented for these wells.
Well GP3 is used to monitor the HI aquifer in this area. TDS
values have remained steady since monitoring of well GP3 began after
its completion in 1985 (see Figure B-19). Figure B-20 presents the
TDS versus time plot for well GP4. Well GP4 exhibits a very similar
TDS plot for water from the RLM aquifer in this area.
Figures B-21 and B-22 present TDS plots for wells GPS and GP6.
These wells are used to monitor the QR aquifer in their respective
areas. TDS values for these wells have remained steady since they
• were completed and monitoring began in 1985. The TDS from upgradient
3-5
