• iii iiiiiiiiiiiu iii •
The following information pertaining to wildlife is provided for
use by the Land Reclamation Board in their consideration of a
mining permit for Mathias Concrete. Inc.
1500 N. Farm Road
Monte Vista, CO 81144
The Colorado Division of Wildlife does hereby find, to the hest of
our knowledge, that the impact of the proposed mining operation on
wildlife will be
X minor
moderate
major
Mine Location: NW14, SWyz S. 20, 39 N. - R. 8 E., NMPM
Wildlife Species List: (may be attached)
The area is currently used by waterfowl, shorebirds and small rodents.
Endangered Species Impacted:
None that are known.
Assessment of Impact on Wildlife: (may be attached)
The operation will be oY benefit to wildlife, particularly waterfowl.
Mine Reclamation Recommendations: (may be attached)
This area can be reclaimed to provide outstanding habitat for waterfowl and
other forms of wildlife. At the conclusion of the excavation, an estimated
40 surface acre lake will be formed in an area which already provides excellent
waterfowl habitat. Reclamation of this 40 acre.lake should include leaving
several shallow areas for the establishment of aquatic vegetation and water- '
fowl feeding areas. A list of vegetation desirable to waterfowl is attached.
Several of these plant species could be obtained locally for establishment
in the lake. Many plant species native along the Rio Grande River could be
transplanted around the lake. Some of these species include thin-leafed
cottonwood, Russuan olive and willows. Many other programs can also be
initiated, such as installing goose nesting structures, which will also
enhance the area for wildlife. The local wildlife conservation officer
should be consulted to discuss these programs.

Prepared by Rick Sherman and Clayton Wetherill
