This <br />deep, well drained soil is on fans and fan terraces. It formed in alluvium. <br />The native vegetation is mainly grasses. Elevation is 7,300 to 8,000 feet. <br />The average annual precipitation is 16 to 18 inches, the average annual air <br />v~~ <br />temperature is 44 to fr7 degrees F, and the average frost-free period is 80 <br />to lU0 days. <br />'l~picaLly, the surface layer is dark brown gravelly sandy loam about 10 <br />inches thick. The subsoil is very cobbly clay Loam about 18 inches thick. <br />The substratwn to a depth of 6U inches is extremely cobbly sandy loam. The <br />soil is neutral to a depth of 28 inches and mildly alkaline below that <br />depth. Curecanti soils with a thick cover of cobbles and stones on the <br />surface are in stringers about 10 to 50 feet wide. These areas are about 30 <br />percent of the unit. <br />Permeability of this Curecanti soil is moderate. Available water <br />capacity is low. Effective rooting depth is 60 inches or more. Runoff is <br />slow to medium, and the hazard of water erosion is slight to moderate. <br />'This unit is used for rangeland. <br />'[he potential plant community on this emit is mainly Arizona fescue, <br />mountain muhly, western wheatgrass, and muttongrass. The average annual <br />produ~:tion of air-dry vegetation is about 1,000 pounds per acre. If the <br />condition of the range deteriorates, blue grama, fringed sagebrush, yucca, <br />and rribbithrush increase. Range seeding is suitable if the range is in poor <br />condition. Seeding by broadcasting may be needed in areas with stones and <br />cobblEas on the surface. <br />
