HENRY ~. HH RIV ER
MDNTE VISTA
BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
TNAD c. Eu1DTr Rio Grands County
MDNTE V19TA
it Dal Node, Colorado 81134
DlAN HAMMOND
DEL NORTE
Del Norte Pit: Highway 11112 7l ~~ /~
L. WM. MILLER
COnNTY ATTORNEY
DEL NORTE
The following are comments which further explain our reclamation plan on
this area:
1. There is no way that we can guess with a~ degree of accuracy the average
expected depth of water in the pit area since this depends entirely on the
snow pack in the mountains each year. No engineer or governmenCal agency
' will predict or forcast what this may be in the future.
2. Since it is impossible to forcast if Chere will be sufficient moisture in
the pit to germinate seed, and since the county owns no surface water decrees,
we feel it would be a very unwise expenditure of. taxpayers money to seed an
area or plant shrubery. Further since the original area was almost barren
of 'Vegetation (less than 5%) if were were to seed and get it esCablished
we would actually be creating an oasis.
3. Because of the pit area being a short distance from Del Norte, Che impact
oli migratory fowl and wildlife is very minimal.
4. 't'he soils, as it shows in exhibit B, are J 2 F A and are very rocky and
contain very little dirt.
5. The Rio Grande Canal which borders the pit area on the north has a berm
which protects it from any sedimentation problem from the gravel operation
at the pit.
1-x"zc ~ cl~" ""2 v-~`2
Henry~~ S~iriver
Chairman of the Roard
RE~~~ae~~
f,9",R ? - 1978

.. y. ~ __.. __~~~.e.~.__.,_
