~ III IIIIIIIIIIIII III ~
United States Department of the Interior
BUREAU OF LAND MANAGEMENT
ROYAL GORGE RESOURCE AREA
P.O. BOX 311
CANON CITY, COLORADO 61212
Parshall Butler
Fremont County
Planning and Zoning
P.O. Box 349
Canon City, CO 81212
Dear Mr. Butler:
r, ~~
MAR ti°90 ~~
0~1
~.. fib
March 19, 1990
~~
~ i
3620
Fremt Cty/
Red Gulch
(CO-057)
Enclosed is a free use permit for your use. We have given environmental
documentation used to prepare this permit to Marshall Butler of the Planning
Department. In particular, a cultural (archaeology) clearance, a visual
rescurce evaluation, and the SCS reclamation plan are included. It is our
understanding that you will utilize this information to prepare a MLRD permit
application. Please let us know if you need any additional assistance. Submit
a copy to us of this permit when finalized for our files.
Ae have issued the permit for a three year period rather than the requested ten
year period for the following reasons:
1. The soils studies for this area suggest that bedrock is close to the
surface and there is probably less material at the site that what is
expected.
2. The soils in this area are highly erosive and long-term use could
result in on-going erosion problems.
3. The chosen site is highly visible and this road section is popular
particularly during t},e fall as a scenic drive, and a gravel pit at
this site will contrast with the scenic qualities of the area.
We are hopeful that the material from this location will meet your needs the
next three years and that we can work together with you during that time span
to locate a more suitable site for long-term use in the area. i+e request that
a preconstruction on-site be held prior to surface disturbance. Please let us
knox if you have any questions or concerns.
Sincerely yours,
P.rea anager
Enclosure:
as noted
E-F
