introduction
The .stand and gravel pit o.cned by Nottingham Sand & gravel
Company is located west of Eagle , Colorado. Access to Lhe site
is from C . S . Highway 6 . The 28 . 86 acre parcel is located loutt of
the Eagle Fiver and immediately north of C . S . Highway 6 .
The following revegetation plan outlines the process to
be followed to restore the site to a character consistent with
the surrounding terrain . As an area is completed to final ex-
cavation grade, it will be revegetated according to the herein
contained recommendations .
Finish Grading
Prior to revegetation planting or topsoil placement, some
minor earthwork will be done to enhance the aesthetic quality
and revegetation potential of the north facing slope along the
south edge of the property. The slope will be rounded at the
head and toe of the slope, leaving a slight depression at the
toe in an effort to collect natural moisture . Additionally ,
terraces will be constructed at approximately 10 ' vertical
intervals to aid the growth of new transplants on the slope .
(See hereto attached cross section)
All topsoil and overburden soil from excavation areas will
be stockpiled with adequate precaution for erosion control . The
available soil will be respread on disturbed areas to a minimum
depth of 4" . Nottingham Sand & Gravel Company will import soil
as necessary to assure all disturbed areas are covered with a
minimum 4" of topsoil or overburden soils which are of acceptable
texture for a seedbed.
Seedling Transplants
Container grown seedlings (young plants which are grown
from seeds) will be planted on the southern slope . Seedlings
have been selected to achieve the establishment .of trees and
shrubs on the site due to their superior survival capabilities
in native planting situations as well as their cost efficiency
which allows for more extensive plantings . As shown on the
hereto attached cross section, the seedlings will be placed only
on the lower portions of the slope and on the terraces where
available natural moisture is highest and potential seeding
survival is greatest. Seedling transplants have not been proposed
on the flat areas of the site since these areas will likely be
disturbed by future users of the property. In addition to the
below listed seedlings , some cottonwood seedlings may be planted
along a drainageway on the western end of the property if .there
is a good indication of natural soil moisture . Seedlings should
be planted in early spring or late fall , along with, but pre-
ferably prior to seeding operations . It is recommended that
approximately 23 seedlings per 1, 000 square feet be planted in
designated areas . Not less than 3 . 0 acres will be planted
with seedlings nor more than 4 . 5 acres , except at this dis-
cretion of Nottingham Sand & Gravel Company.
