2.04.10 Vegetation Information
•
The various plant communitities found within the permit area are
delineated on the Vegetation Ftap (Map 3). Three basic plant communities
were identified:
1) Ponderosa Pine/Grassland
2) Ponderosa Pine
3) Pastureland
The areas affected by the previous mining operations consisted primarily
of Ponderosa pine/grassland vegetation.
As mentioned earlier, the area to be used for the surface facilities of
the Coal Gulch Mine has been previously disturbed by past surface and
underground mining operations. Therefore, at the recommendation of the
Division, no site-specific vegetation survey was conducted.
• The area to be used for the surface facilities at the Coal Gulch Mine
will be limited to approximately ten (10) acres. Because this area has
been previously affected, and in conversations with the Division, the
standards of a pre-mining vegetation survey were waived in lieu of this
past disturbance. The success of revegetation will be based upon the
results of the soils testing and determined in accordance with the
recommendations of the Division.
1. In lieu of providing site-specific vegetation information, the
a licant should rovide a descri tion of the recedin ve etation
communities erived from_ SCS in orm_ation, surroun ing vegetative
communities, or other ermit a ication information which is
re evant. a escription s ou d inc u e in ormation on species
composition, cover, productivity and woody plant density.
RESPONSE:
On July 30, 1984, Mr. Dan Lynn, District Conservationist for the United
States Department of Agriculture, Soil Conservation Service, conducted a
• range condition inventory of the site to be used for surface facilities
at the planned Coal Gulch Mine. The results of his inventory are found
2.oa-27 MAR 0 4 1986
