r~
U
2.04.9 Soil Resource Information
Soils found in the permit area are delineated on the Soils Map (Map 4).
Site specific soil work has been completed by the United States
Department of Agriculture, Soil Conservation Service ("SCS"), on the
permit and adjacent areas. The mapping intensity utilized by the SCS
was the Order 2 sampling intensity.
The main soil associations found within the permit and adjacent area are
as follows:
1) XM6-D
2) XMI
3) R5-EF
4) M4-DF
5) XC5F
6) A3-B
Fort Wingate Rock Outcrop Complex
Horsethief Stony Fine Sandy Loam
Goldvale Very Stony Fine Sandy Loam
Anvick Loam
Archuleta-Sanchez Complex
Jodero Loam
The areas disturbed by the previous mining activities consisted
primarily of the Jodero Loam (A3-B), the Anvick Loam (M4-DF), and the
Archuleta-Sanchez Complex (XC5F).
As mentioned earlier, the area to be used for the surface facilities of
the Coal Gulch Mine has been previously disturbed by past operations.
Therefore, there is no soil available for salvage by Peerless Resources,
Inc. At the recommendation of the Division, no site specific soil
survey was conducted.
The planned surface area for the facilities at the Coal Gulch Mine is
limited to approximately ten (10) acres. This area has been previously
affected; in conversations with the Division, the standards of a
pre-mining soil survey were waived in lieu of this past disturbance.
The amount of fertilizer and/or soil amendments for the regraded area
will be based upon the results of the "soils" testing at the conclusion
• of mining and determined in accordance with the recommendations of the
Division.
2.04-25
