The app iTcant
should a so provi e temperature range data and average ve ocity of
prevailing winds information.
RESPONSE:
Table 3, Monthly Average Precipitation and Table 4, Monthly Average
Temperature have been revised to include monthly averages of both
temperature and precipitation. These revised tables are included for
insertion in the permit application.
Temperature range data for the weather station located in Durango,
Colorado are set forth in Table 4A, Temperature Means and Extremes
(1971-1978). The mean temperature for Durango is approximately 46.7°f
with temperature extremes of -23°F in January and 98°F in July for the
period 1971-1978.
The synoptic flow in the Durango area is characterized by prevailing
• southwesterly winds. The direction and speed of the winds are greatly
affected by the local topography.
A high frequency of near-calm conditions exist at the location of the
planned Coal Gulch surface facilities because of the protection afforded
by the local terrain in most of the valleys. These conditions generally
occur at night and in the early morning. The strongest winds in the
area can be expected during the winter and early spring, especially in
March, and briefly during summer thunderstorms.
The prevailing winds over the permit area will be from the southwest at
an average speed of approximately five (5) to ten (10) miles per hour.
Strong winds will occur due to cold fronts and thunderstorms moving
through the area and may exceed 20 to 25 miles per hour.
•
MAR 0 4 1986
2,oU-23A
;r.~-...
