Alternative Water Supplies
r~
L
Peerless Resources mining activities will not cause contamination,
diminution, or interruption of any underground or surface source of
water. The consequences of mining on the hydrologic balance, existing
water resources, and water rights, will probably be non-existent.
Because of the very limited or lack of groundwater in the area of
planned mining, there should be no measureable effects on the
groundwater system or groundwater rights. No permanent or continuous
aquifers will be impacted by the mining operation. Likewise, the mining
operations will not alter water quality in Coal Gulch.
A sediment and drainage control plan prepared for the planned Peerless
Resources operation will minimize or eliminate impacts to Coal Gulch.
Following mining, and the conclusion of reclamation, vegetation will be
reestablished, and the area will not cause any contamination,
diminution, or interruption to the surface water system.
The hydrologic features of the general area are shown on the Regional
Hydrology Map (Map 6). Detailed sediment control structures of the
surface facilities area are indicated on the Mine Facilities Map (Map
12).
Ground and surface water uses are not expected to be impacted in the
vicinity of the planned Peerless Resources operations. The uses are
mainly limited in the Coal Gulch area because of the lack of room for
any other beneficial uses other than some minor residential use.
Because the Coal Gulch Mine will be mining coal at elevations above Coal
Gulch, there will be no impact on uses developed downstream in the
valley. Peerless Resources operations may impact some perched systems
within the permit boundaries, but will not affect any regional,
continuous aquifer. Because Peerless Resources operations will not
impact any surface water users in Coal Gulch, and because any impact on
•
2.04-19
