2. Map 7, Coal Gulch Mine Geology/Hydrology shows the axis of the
• Perine Peak S ncline as runnin throw h the southeastern corner of
the permit boundary. T is appears to e a major s_tructura feature
of the area an t e permit app ication s ou inc ul~e a discussion
of this under subsection Structure.
RESPONSE:
The Perine Peak Syncline is a local syncline identified by the U.S.
Geological Survey during its mapping of this area. There is no regional
structural significance to the location of this syncline.
3. The permit application does not contain a discussion of the general
area or repiona aeo ooic structure.
RESPONSE:
As with the structure of the permit and adjacent areas, the structure of
the general area likewise appears to be quite simple. The strata in the
entire region is relatively flat lying with average regional dips of 2
• to 3 degrees to the south. With the exception of one fault system
located over five (5) miles southeast of the permit area, there is no
major faulting in the general area. The general lack of structure in
the general area can be seen on the Regional Geology Map (Map 5).
• @~~AR 0 4 ~°~
2vy-/?A
