Loveland Ready-Mix, Inc -Green /Croissant Sand and Gravel Mine, M-2001-022
Rule 3.1.7(7): Groundwater Monitoring Program
The following groundwater monitoring program for the Green /Croissant Sand and
Gravel Mine is being provided in conjunction with a previous agreement in Exhibit G of
the DMG-112 Permit Application. The monitoring program will analyze fluctuations in
the underlying water table, possibly caused by mining operations. The focus of this
program will be to compare historical water levels to that experienced during future
mining activities. This analysis will assist Loveland Ready-Mix, Inc in mitigating
possible losses in nearby wells, water storage areas, and wetlands. The following
monitoring program will discuss: 1) the installation of three piezometers (monitor wells),
and two water level gauges in the existing pond and reservoir, 2) frequency of
monitoring, 3) duration of monitoring, 4) provisions of baseline monitoring, 5) results of
data reporting, 6) DMG notification criteria, and 7 mitigation Possib' iti~s four dr m
water levels. ~,1..~'y~ ~ ~1 r~,m1L(?~~~~~t ~
1) The three piezometers (see enclosed Map), will be installed to a depth of twenty-
feet below the surface and drilled by an experienced drilling crew and a CME 75
drill rig. Each well will be constructed with one ten foot, two-inch screen section
and one ten foot section of two-inch PVC riser casing. Well protection will utilize
sand pack, bentonite seal, concrete pads, and steel lockable casings sticking
above the ground approximately three feet. Elevation readings will be taken to
determine the top of the PVC casing by a licensed survey crew.
The property has an existing pond and reservoir located on the property and
outside of the mining boundaries (see map). Water level gauges will be installed
along the outer limits of the water storage areas. Elevation readings of the pond
and reservoir surfaces will be made at the time of installing the gauges to
determine the current water levels.
Locations for the data collection were established to provide information on
possible impacts up gradient of the site and along the entire mining boundary.
Data will not be collected along the eastern boundary near the river, due to the
possibility of exaggerated water levels near the river.
2) Monitoring data will be collected from all piezometers, the existing pond and
reservoir on a quarterly basis, or more frequently if dictated by conditi~s.
/~` ia~wm~x~
3) The duration for the monitoring program will cover a reasonable period of time ^µ~•
prior to mining and concurrent with mining, for the life of the mine.
4) This historic data will determine baseline averages for the area prior to any
disturbance, for comparison with data collected during mining. To help visualize
the possible fluctuations in the water table, hydrographs will be used as needed
for data comparison.
