Case 1: Cohesion, C=1,350 psf, friction angle, ~=9°
Case 2: Cohesion, C=4,320 psf, friction angle, Q=0°
Results and Discussions
The lateral slope stability analysis performed considering
the previously stated conservative assumptions and strength
parameters resulted in the following factors of safety.
Case 1: 1.73
Case 2: 1.62
The simplified analysis performed indicated a minimum factor
of safety of greater than 1.5. The actual factor of safety
will be significantly higher than 1.5. Considering the facts
that: (1) there are no plans for secondary mining (full ex-
traction) near this portion of the main entries; (2) it is
improbable that a continuous crack will develop through the
overburden materials; and, (3) existence of higher strength
floor materials such as claystone, shale, siltstone and sand-
stone.
Based on this very conservative simplified analysis, the
lateral stability of the F-seam has factors of safety far in
excess of the required 1.5.
_,
y
i
i
~i
~'
I
i

•
23
