n
application, to allow construction of the proposed permanent
refuse. pile, to obtain permit approval, and to respond to
issues raised in the CMLRD's December 17, 1984 letter.
1.3 Refuse Disposal Facility
The refuse disposal facility will be located in Section 16,
Township 13 South, Range 90 West of the 6th Principal Meri-
dian, Gunnison County, Colorado. Approximately the eastern
half of the refuse disposal facility will be located above
the existing underground mine. The final refuse development
plan, as shown on drawing No. MG-R-C-001, will cover
approximately 40 acres.
At present, it is estimated that 150,000 tons of refuse will
be produced during the first year of operation (1985-86) and
100,000 tons per year for subsequent years. The refuse
material will primarily consist of coarse coal reject and
developmental waste rock.
It is estimated that the final development plan will accom-
modate a total volume of approximately 5 million tons of
refuse with an average density of 90 pcf. Based on a pro-
jected refuse production rate of 100,000 tons per year, the
life of the refuse disposal facility will be 50 years.
C~
J
•
2
