woody Plant Densftv. Shrub and tree establishment in reclaimed ereee of the permit area
will be achieved through natural regeneration from direct heulinp of topsoil, reinvasion
from edj scent undisturbed tommunlties, seeding of shrubs, planting of shrub and tree
seedlings, end establishment oT live shrub transplant cites. The planting of trees and
chrubs will be oriented towards the development of habitat "Islands" or "groupings" to
benefit wildlife. Seeding will be done et edditione to the seed mixes applied over the
reclaimed acres or es concentrated seeding areas to achieve the results of "islands".
The approved shrub density standard for reclaimed ereee is 7000 stems per acre, averaged
over the reclaimed areas. This will also be the standard for concentrated shrub
establishment areas. Moody plant densities will be estimated by randomly locating direct
count plots or quadrats in association with the randomly located cover/production sample
plots. A 2-meter by 50•meter (700mz) or larger direct count plot will be used for
estimating woody plant densities. Stems rooted within the direct count plot will be
tallied with countable stems determined by criteria specified in Rule 4.75.8(7)(a-c).
Numbers will be presented as stems/plot, stems/hectare, end stems/acre. Density shall be
considered acceptable when the mean shrub density in the reclaimed area will not be less
than 90 percent of the 1000 stems per ec re standard with 90 percent statistical
confidence.
Seasonal Variety. Seasonal variety in native lends on and adjacent to the permit area is
essentially not present since stands are comprised of predominantly cool season species.

13.39 Reviced 04/29/94
