Revegetation Monitorl ng
Monrtorr ny of rev egetat ed areae at the Seneca II Mtne will consist of both qualitative evaluations
and quant It ative measurements. Qualitative evaluations will be ra aied out at least annually during
the growing season, while quantitative measurements and evaluations will be on a more periodic basis.
Qualitative evaluations will consist of visual observation,: of newly seeded areas in order [o
evaluate seeding success, monitor for excessive ril li nq and qulLyi ng, determine The success of
applied reU ama[SCn pro ctSces, Sdentify pot ent lal noxious weed problems, and es tl mate the degree of
species establishment through natural regeneration. Qual Stative evaluations may extend past the
first several years for areas of new rill and gully repair, areas of noxious weed coot [ol, areas
requiring restricted lot erseed ing or reseeding, or areas that have been planted to trees avid shrubs.
As stated above, monitoring through quantitative measurements will be rattled out Fie riodically on
reveget at ed areas ai the Seneca II Mlne. Revegetation monitorLng of a given area of reclamation will
be identl fi ed by year of in It ial seeding, and conducted during the second or third growl ng season,
and'perlcdically thereafter (every 2-4 years until bond Ss .re.l ea sed. Reference, area sampling may
be conducted coincidentally with revegeta[ion monitoring. For purposes of this discussion,
quantitative sampling during the last two censecuti ve years cf the ex [ended liability period is not
considered monico ri ng. The daCa and results from the quantitative mcni toeing program will be
provided to [he Division by the March 30 of the following year as part of the Annual Reclamation
Report.
The following discussion details parameters to be sampled, sampling methodologies and sampling
intensity for the reveg et at ion monitoring program.
Sampling Parame[ors.
Cover. Cover data wi 11 include cover by species (both absolute and to Lative valuesl, Coral
vegetative cover and cover values for lister, rock and bare ground.
