Regrading or Stabilizing Rills and Gullies
Seeded areas will be monitored following spring snowmelt and heavy rains. If monitoring indicates
the presence of excessive rills and gullies, loser observation will be used to determine the cause of
the gullying. These areas will be identified on a map.
Natural geomorphic processes in the reclaimed azea will be emphasized, taking into account the
slope, aspect, and soil conditions of the site. Further consideration will be given to the normal
climatic patterns and rate of vegetation establishment and development in the subject azea.
Evaluation will include whethu the rills and gullies will prohibit successful revegetation or will
dismpt the achievement of the postmining land use.
Based on this evaluation, several options will be available to coaect the situation. These options will
be a direct result of studying the situation and selecting the option that will best rectify the erosional
problem. One or more of the following options and corrective methods will be employed.
•
•
MR-53 13-30 Revised 72/05
