• Road Reclamation. The three types of roads requiring reclamation within the mine site are haul roads that <br />are to be totally reclaimed, light-use roads that are to be totally reclaimed, and roads that are presently haul <br />roads but will be left for the postmine landowner and must be narrowed. There are approximately 3.6 miles <br />of haul roads that will be totally reclaimed, 2.1 miles of light-use roads that will be totally reclaimed, and 11.0 <br />miles of haul roads and access roads that will be downsized for postmine landowner use. <br />Licht-Use Roads. There will be approximately 2.1 miles of light-use roads that will be reclaimed. As a <br />general rule, these roads are not surfaced. The subgrade will be ripped, and the cuUfills will be gratled to <br />cover the surface material. The culverts and embankments will be removed, topsoil respread, and the area <br />revegetated. <br />Haul Roads. There are approximately 3.6 miles of haul road that will need to be reclaimed. The surtacing <br />material will be hauled into the pit and buried as part of the final pit grading <br />Permanent Roads. There are approximately 11.0 miles of proposed permanent haul roads and access <br />roads. These roads will be narrowed to 20 foot wide for postmining use (see Tab 13 for details). These <br />• roads will take the place of jeep trails that existed in the area prior to mining and add transportation routes <br />that were not available prior to mining. <br />Fleet Determination <br />Once the volumes for the various phases of reclamation were determined, the number of shifts, hours per <br />shift, equipment types, operatodoperating efficiencies, support shifts, hours per shift, equipment types, <br />operatorloperating efficiencies, support equipment, and overall reclamation time span had to be determined. <br />The following discussion provides the wnsiderations utilized in determining the equipment fleet needed. <br />Production Shifts. One shift per day was used for topsoiling and finish grading. Two shifts per day were <br />used for open pit backfilling. Using two shifts per day would allow for preventative maintenance and minor <br />equipment repair to occur on third shift, if needed. Shifts were based on an eight-hour period per shift. A <br />conservative operating efficiency of 83 percent was used to account for tlecreased productivity due to <br />operator efficiency for scrapers. Fifty min/hr was used for dozers due to ocher factors, taking darkness into <br />consideration. <br />Ecuioment Tvpe. The types of equipment selected were based on similar type equipment presently <br />• operating at the mine site or could prudently be brought in for a job of this magnitude. Whenever possible, <br />Caterpillar equipment was used for reclamation due to widely published information regarding costs and <br />performance.
