• 32 Ba•rer• lls Court III III III IIIIIII III
Colorado Borings, Co.
15 September 77
~~~~~~~~
CoioYado Mined Land Reclamation Board
723 Centennial Bldg,
1313 Sherman Street
Denver, Co.
SEP 21 19i'
MINED L?.ND RECL'~NIATIQN
Colo. Dept. of Natural Resoercas
Dear Sir;
77-21/
According to the Colorado Springs Gazette Telegraph today, 15 September,
the Castle Concrete Company has filed application for permits to continue
mining operations at Pikeview quarry and Queers Canyon quarry until 2032
and 1983 or"at a much later date depending on commercial conditions."
Both of these operations have been in operation for a "Substantial
period of time" according to the legal notice and, of course, this is very
obvious to any resident of Colorado Springs, In fact, we all know queens
Canyon open pit mine as the scar on the mountain. And an incredible,
ugly rape of the beauty of Colorado Springs these mines are to all but
blind men! Does your office actually grant permission to Castle Concrete
to continue despoilation of our lovely City? And do the mining permits
applied for last into the indefinite future as stated in the applications?
It is perhaps easy for the citizens~of this city to ignore these tuo
long lived areas of destruction especially when only 20 or 30 truck loads
of our great mountain range is blasted away and hauled out for sale each
day, Certainly the rock being mined in full view of our City is available
in some unpopulated area such as along Gold Camp Road, Let Castle do
their mining elsewhere if the operation can be justified,
Please record my objection to the above mining operations in the
strongest possible terms!
YOUrs truly, ~ `'
;,
H.
