• Since the Rimrock Mine disturbed a relatively small area in a coal seam that was already
extensively disturbed, and since the sampling data do not indicate that the Rimrock Mine activities
have resulted in negative effects to the groundwater of the area, it is believed that the ongoing
quarterly monitoring of the three wells: USGS well, Well 29-4 and the Montoya well should be
terminated.
In the lab results enclosed after this page, an error was found in the original pre-mine baseline
data for the USGS well in the 6/88 sample. Sulfate ion was reported as 2775 mg/1 yet the TDS
level was reported as 2880 mg/l. After asking the lab about this, the lab stated that the correct
sulfate ion content for this sample was only 1550 mg/1.
The following text is no longer a requirement:
• Annual hydrologic reports will be submitted to the division by January 31 for each previous year.
These reports will include all water quality and data in addition to a discussion of mining related
impacts to the hydrologic balance.
Page 1 S
• Revision:3/3/99
~R )~
S~~
