~- ~
Baptist Road
Following nearly two hours of
debate, the EI Paso County
Commissioners on Monday voted
unanimously ro grant a special ttse
permit fora 14.6-acre gavel pit
owned by the Dellacmce family.
However, before a single rock can
be transported on public roads, one
of two proposed alternatives to keep
st~iJ11 roadbl
difference. /,~~~
Alternative Two would leav
Bapust Road intact.lnstead of tmcks
taming left onto Bapust Road as
they have done in the past, the haul
road would be extended across
Baptist Road, eventually taming left,
or nosh, and connecting to that 60-
foo[ wide portion between the
Alternative One
' widening riamc
e JimDtewry,
miles west of
years and hasp
noise, dust or tr
operations.
He added th
the area has c
years.
'Z have no on
pi[ "Drewry
something be
Drewry sa
BBptISt Rd. This
section would be used by trucks onl y
and wotild be 30-feet wide.
There also would be a ?A mph
speed limit on whichever haul road
is adopted.
Another item w be ironed out
between the Dellacroces and county
officials will be how to end a chronic
problem of erosion that occurs on
Baptist Road at the junction of the
proposed bypass.
That portion of road is too narrow
for the placement of culverts and
drains according to Max Rothschild,
public works director.
"It's no[ up tothe county toreplace
the road," Rothschild told
commissioners. "We'vealways tried
to have joint cooperation in these
matters but the residents have created
the traffic problem (on BaptistRoad),
It's nothing new forus to pick up pari
of the cost."
Suggestions were made that
residents who depend on Baptist Road
form a special district to help pay for
Alternative Two
BBptISt Rd.
