Following nearly two hours of
debate, the EI Paso County
Commissioners on Monday voted
unanimously ro grant a special ttse
permit fora 14.6-acre gavel pit
owned by the Dellacmce family.
However, before a single rock can
be transported on public roads, one
of two proposed alternatives to keep

Alternative One as proposed by
Robert and Raymond Delhtcroce,
would have the county build a 60-
foot wide roadway conning east of
and parallel to the curtent Wes[
Baptist Road.
The bypass, as it is being called,
will join the 60-foot wide portion of
Baptist Road just east of where it
ctirrendy rums left and narrows to
18-feet wide.
That portion of Baptist Road
between where the bypass begins
and ends would be deeded to the
Dellacroces and would be used by
the gravel trucks.
Since the Dellacroces would be
giving up land to provide forthe 60-
Fool wide bypass, they wan[ the
county w reimburse them or.perhaps
swap Lmd for the difference in road
widths.
Both sides agreed a stuvey would
be necessary to determine the
raitroad tracks and the left stun. This
section would be used by trucks onl y
and wotild be 30-feet wide.
There also would be a ?A mph
speed limit on whichever haul road
is adopted.
Another item w be ironed out
between the Dellacroces and county
officials will be how to end a chronic
problem of erosion that occurs on
Baptist Road at the junction of the
proposed bypass.
That portion of road is too narrow
for the placement of culverts and
drains according to Max Rothschild,
public works director.

to have joint cooperation in these
matters but the residents have created
the traffic problem (on BaptistRoad),
