T
i III IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
~\y ~'`:
~~~y~ HENLEY'S KEY SERVICE
117 EAST BOULDER STREET COLORADO SPRINGS, =OLORADO
January 12, 1978
Colorado Mine Land Reclamation Board
1313 Sherman Street
Denver, Colorado 80203
Gentlemen:
I keep seeing in letters and hearing on the radio very passionate
pleas for closing the surface mining by Castle Concrete Company
on the front range.
In checking I find that many of those people are riding on
fortunes derived from mineral exploitation and might even be
motivated by the fact that the limestone quarry isn't theirs.
As you know, it is a very good source of limestone, about the
only source of such a type of building material in our area and
a great many of the homes built in recent years have benefited.
The material is there. I think it should be used. The alleged
scar on the mountain is not unsightly but rather a beauty mark
and point of reference to those viewing the front range.
If that is closed down, then in all justice, such things as the
Rampart Range Road, Corley Highway, the Broadmoor Ski Area, tie
Cog Railway and the highway up Ute Pass should be closed because
they too have disturbed the natural vegetation,
However, rather than close any of these, Let us use them to t1Te
utmost and when we are through, clean up the mess - if any,
Since
Homer D.
